• Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia.
• There are 17,508 islands in Indonesia. Only 6,000 are inhabited. The major islands are Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan (Borneo), Sulawesi (Celebes), and Papua.
• Indonesia is the 4th most populous country in the world. There are about 237 million people living in Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago.
• Indonesia used to be known as the Dutch East Indies, because it was colonized by the Dutch for almost 350 years.
