A TROPICAL COUNTRY

Indonesia lies in the equator. This means that Indonesia has a tropical climate. There are only two seasons in Indonesia, wet and dry.

The temperature is relatively similar all year long. In Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, the temperature ranges from 26-30 degrees Celsius (79-86 degrees Fahrenheit). We can say that it is summer all year long!

Many parts of Indonesia are covered by tropical forest.

Indonesia has may high mountains, and also hundreds of volcanoes, about 150 of them active. In 1883 one of the volcanoes, Krakatoa, erupted, and  its eruption was heard more than 3,000 miles away. The power of the eruption was 13,000 bigger than the atomic bombs that devastated Japan in 1945! It is said that the Krakatoa eruption had some significant effects worldwide in years afterwards. The global average temperature fell by 1.2 degrees Celsius, the sky color was darker, and in the Northern countries people saw spectacular sunsets and blue moon for a very long time.
