UNITY IN DIVERSITY

There are more than 300 ethnic groups in Indonesia. Each has its own tradition, custom, and language. In fact, there are more than 700 languages and dialects spoken in Indonesia.

Every child born in Indonesia is usually bilingual, if not multilingual. They are able to speak the national language, Bahasa Indonesia, their own ethnic language, and perhaps the languages of other ethnic groups.

In addition to that, children also learn foreign languages in schools. English is the most popular foreign language. It is learned from the 4th grade. Other popular foreign languages are Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, German, and French.
